About NAIEF

The Nepal-America International Education Foundation(NAIEF)
(Registered July 5, 2004)

The Nepal-America International Education Foundation (NAIEF) is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization founded in the United States on January 25, 2003 and registered in the State of Texas on July 5, 2004 to advance education in Nepal by strengthening people’s participation in social works. We give the most underprivileged, but promising students the tools and opportunities to build their future. We strive to foster friendship and understanding among Nepalese, Americans, and the rest of the people around the world for the common goal of advancing education in Nepal.

Our vision is of the country of Nepal in which every citizen enjoys the basic human rights to education as the key to a dynamic, prosperous, and peaceful nation.

In pursuit of this vision, we have penned in our mission, which is: First, we need to make financial and other resources available to the poor and deserving students at all levels of study in schools and colleges. Second, we need to provide them guidance with an educational, supportive environment in which they can achieve their educational goals. Third, we need to educate parents about the importance of education for the welfare and betterment of their children, family, community, and society at large. Finally, we as a public-interest advocate need to encourage community-based educational research projects that help us develop and define our policy and strategy on educational issues to serve the society better.

The foundation is committed to reducing financial roadblocks, thereby creating incentives for the underprivileged students to pursue their academic goals. In that regard, the foundation has established an endowment fund named after late Chandika Devi Shrestha in her memory with generous donations by her family members and friends. The endowment fund is officially coined as the Chandika Devi Shrestha Memorial Scholarship Fund. The total amount of donations in the fund has been reached up to US $13,600 since the time of its inception. In accordance with the policies of the foundation, the interests and dividends generated by the fund are either strictly used to finance its scholarship programs or reinvested in the fund.

The Chandika Devi Shrestha Memorial Scholarship is awarded every year to Nepalese students at school and college levels on the occasion of “Education Day” in Nepal, which usually falls in the third or fourth week of February. Since its inception 3 years ago, the scholarship has been awarded every consecutive year; as a result, 83 students have benefited from this program.

The foundation heartily supports and encourages individual and corporate contributions to our Scholarship and Award programs. With your help, we hope to reach many more students in the years to come by creating new scholarship opportunities while supporting our existing programs.
